Carello (San Giovanni in Fiore)

Carello is a frazione of the comune of San Giovanni in Fiore, in the province of Cosenza, now completely abandoned by its inhabitants. The village lies at the bottom of the valley of the same name.

Until the 1960s the village, together with the nearby hamlet of Jannia (not a true settlement but scattered farmhouses), had about 300 inhabitants. Like nearby Fantino, however, it soon emptied quickly and for good, even though important works were being planned. The reasons probably lie in the village's position itself, poorly connected to the neighbouring towns.
