About

Borghi Fantasma is an atlas of Italy's abandoned villages: where they are, why they emptied and which ones you can still visit. It is a personal project by Alfredo Matano.

How it is made

Places come from Wikidata and OpenStreetMap; texts and photos from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, always with author and licence. Pages are prepared with the help of artificial intelligence tools and reviewed by hand; access and visiting information is checked against official and local sources whenever possible.

Before you go

Many villages are unsafe or on private property: always check access with the local comune before you go, and respect any bans.
