Curon Venosta (vecchio paese)
In 1950 the Lake Resia dam flooded the old village of Curon. Only the 14th-century bell tower was left above the water, and it has become the symbol of the Val Venosta.
Visiting
Before you go
- Getting there
- Along the Val Venosta main road, just before the Resia Pass (Bolzano). There is a car park with a viewing platform next to the road.
- The visit
- Half an hour for the bell tower; four hours for the full walk around the lake, about 15 km.
- When to go
- All year round: in summer for the lake, in winter when it freezes. More of the bell tower shows when the water is low.
- Good to know
- The area around the bell tower is being redeveloped and may become pedestrian. In the village, the Alta Val Venosta museum tells the story of the drowned village.
