Abandoned village
Sanzanello
Sanzanello is a now abandoned village at km 4 of the former state road 168 from Venosa. Near a turn-off onto a dirt road stands a small church whose tall pointed bell tower is a symbolic landmark for the people of the farms scattered around the area. At km 4.2 another turn-off follows the bottom of a natural cleft in the ground until it opens into a winding gorge lined with farms, rock-cut buildings, livestock farms and stables. On the opposite side of the small canyon, at km 5.2, you can see the vineyards of the winery of the same name, which produces Aglianico del Vulture.
