Abandoned village
Botterone
Botterone was a frazione of the comune of Senna Lodigiana on the banks of the river Po. Once abandoned, it was swept away by floods.
Originally both the Po and the Lambro ran along different beds in this area, the first further north and the second further east. The Botterone mill stood on a small island in the Lambro and belonged administratively to the province of Pavia, specifically the comune of Chignolo, but floods and channelling works over the following centuries left it on the left bank of both rivers. In 1798 Napoleon also redrew the borders on the Po, and Botterone grew with land taken from the comune of Calendasco in the province of Piacenza. In 1844 the Austrian government settled the area for good by joining it to Corte Sant'Andrea, confirming its move to the province of Lodi and Crema.
