Cascina Orgnaga
Cascina Orgnaga was a farmstead in the municipal territory of Pieve Fissiraga. It was an independent comune until 1879.
The oldest written records of the place, as «Overgnaga», date to the 12th century; however, its closeness to the Roman road from Mediolanum to Placentia suggests older origins.
It was the home of the Overgnaghi family, Ghibellines and among the most important families of Lodi at the time.
A document from 1261 shows that Overgnaga was the seat of a pieve of the diocese of Lodi, on which the churches of Cornegliano, Gualcolengo, Massalengo, San Leone di Bargano, Santo Mato, Zemeto, Santa Maria in Bressana, San Simone, Santi Martino e Giorgio in Solarolo, Bruzzalengo and the Ospedale de Remittis depended. The pieve disappeared at the end of the 1200s, replaced by the pieve of Fissiraga: the move may have been decided by the powerful Guelph Fissiraga family, to which the powerful bishop of the time, Bongiovanni, belonged.
In 1589 Orgnaga belonged to the comune of «Castegna, with Orgnaga and Orgnaghina», in the middle Bishopric of the county of Lodi. In the 1786 division of the province of Lodi it was listed as a comune in the district of Sant'Angelo.
Under Napoleon the comune of Orgnaga was abolished and joined to neighbouring Fissiraga; it regained its independence with the creation of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia.
At the Unification of Italy (1861) the comune of Orgnaga had 840 inhabitants. In 1879 the comuni of Pezzolo de' Codazzi and Triulzina, and the hamlets of Andreola and Malguzzana of the abolished comune of Campolungo, were joined to Orgnaga, and the enlarged comune took the name Pieve Fissiraga.
